Impact on Mental Health
When you talk about pop culture, it's also important to note that this includes social media. Social media is a tool that can help us communicate with each other, keep us informed, and entertain us as well. In social media, there are various communities where people with shared interests interact, communicate, socialize, and even form friendships with each other. You could form part of a community with people that read the same genre of books that you do, or people whom you share a favorite artist with.
It's important to note that some interactions had with people in these virtual environments can have an impact on users' mental health, just as it would in real life. This impact can be either positive, where users use these online communities and online friends as an "escape" from their daily lives and help them relax, and maintain a positive and healthy mental state. Even though social media can have a positive impact on your mental health, if you're not careful, it can have a very negative effect. Since this is a place where people all around the world interact with, it's only natural that human behaviors such as bullying take place. Cyber-bullying can severely impact how a person uses social media, since most of the users are anonymous, it can open a window for even worse bullying than in real life, or with users that use their real identities online. The effects of cyber-bullying can and do vary from person to person, as some users will simply just block the cyberbullies and carry on with their lives. Other users will most likely let the bullying get to them, and can cause a series of mental health issues, as severe as if the bullying took place in real life.
So, these online communities do have their benefits, but it is very important to proceed with caution, and remember that if you are being harassed online, to report it using the tools the social platform provides.
